| Keeping workers motivated is one of the key factors to creating a better workplace and boosting the morale of a workforce – whether it is in a contract facility operation or an in-house facility staff.
Michelle Benjamin, president of Benjamin Enterprises, says motivating employees to be better workers isn’t easy, but it is something everyone can accomplish.
She recommends, among other things, the following steps:
- Greet employees with a smile when work begins and a “thank you” when the shift ends
- Give employees the proper tools and equipment to complete the job they are assigned
- Train employees to do the job correctly
- Let employees know that you care about them
- Encourage a great attitude from the top of the organization all the way down to the newest hired person
- Stimulate employees enough that they are encouraged to do better work
- Pay attention, either personally or through supervisors, to worker needs and wants. Find out what motivates each individual and use that information to help them achieve their goals
